It comes as no surprise to us that yet again, our beautiful town here in North Cornwall has been voted into the top 10 of places to live in the UK.

We relocated our business and family from Birmingham 6 years ago, and I can honestly say, we have never once looked back.

Initially we stayed with family in a hamlet 5 miles out of town, before settling for a home in the heart of Wadebridge itself.

Like a lot of you reading this who have yourselves perhaps moved to Cornwall from outside the county, I am sure you have at some point been concerned if you have done the right thing in removing yourself from ‘civilisation’ and settling in a county that is because of its mere geographical location, remote and in places isolated.  I am also sure that your concerns were very short lived.

A far cry from the hustle & bustle of a city with a population in excess of 1 milllion, Wadebridge is a thriving market town with such positive community spirit and diversity of retailers that it borders on the realms of self sufficiency.

A glance through our portfolio on the day of this news stuck a chord with me, as it highlights the diversity in Wadebridge (and surrounding areas of course).  For those of us providing services to business, it is great to have such a wide range of small businesses and sole traders, as it also keeps our work varied;

Talented Outdoor Caterers – The Blue Bus Catering Company specialises in private catering for dinner parties, special occasions and outdoor feasts.  The owner Iain is often seen around Wadebridge in his ‘blue bus’, a 1972 VW camper.  Not only does Iain provide a personal chef service for summer parties or BBQ’s, he will prepare romantic outdoor meals, cater for children’s parties (not to confuse the two!) and shares his wealth of knowledge and experience through informal cookery demonstrations and lessons.

Inspiring Jewellery Designers – Katy Luxton Jewellery, based in Truro creates contemporary jewellery inspired by geometric shapes.  Using recycled gold and silver, Katy’s jewellery is both stylish and sculptural which blends well to some of the bespoke pieces that Katy has been commissioned to do in the past.

Luxury Accommodation – 2 Pilot’s Cottages is a stunning former coastguard’s cottage nestling into Hawker’s Cove just south of Padstow, and boasts amazing views over the Camel Estuary towards Rock.  Modern open plan accommodation and a south facing terrace makes this the perfect destination from which to explore the amazing sites Cornwall has to offer all year round.

Art gallery with a difference – POP Café Gallery is a versatile split level unit which offers a spacious café downstairs showcasing art from the likes of Pure Evil and Krisjana S Williams, and a bespoke picture framing service upstairs.  Available to rent, the café can be turned into a venue for your party or utilised for regular children’s art classes.

A Music Festival – The Rock Oyster Festival is in its third year and in July 2014 is holding a Big Summer Party at Dinham House just outside Wadebridge.  A mega mix of live music and food, this event is guaranteed to have something on the programme to suit all ages and palates, even if oysters aren’t your thing.

Top Class Health and Beauty Spa – River Spa offers the ultimate pampering in spa treatments using handmade organic Cornish products where possible.  Although based in Wadebridge, River Spa works in collaboration with some great hotels in Rock, Polzeath and Padstow enabling clients to experience River Spa’s great treatments further afield.  Stockists of ‘Organic Trevarno’, the ‘bareMineral’ cosmetic range, SpaRitual nail polish and Seven Bays Oyster shell candles, there is more to this spa than one might think.   Along side the usual treatments one might expect, River Spa also performs Lovelite Magenta LED teeth whitening, non-surgical facelifts using the ‘Caci Ulitmate’ machine and ‘Chromolite’ permanent hair removal all performed by highly trained therapists, personally selected to offer you the best spa experience.

Award Winning Primary School - St Breock Primary school in Wadebridge is a highly successful school for pupils aged 3-11yrs.  It converted to Academy status in 2011.  Achieving excellently all across the board St Breock has recently won for the second year running, the Excellence in Sport award.  It also holds awards for being a ‘Healthy School’, has achieved ‘Green Flag’ status, ‘Artsmark Gold’ and ‘FA Development School’ status, and is consistently highly represented  within other areas such as Arts and Drama; most recently performing at the West Wilstshire Commonwealth Dance Festival 2014 in Bath.

No surprise then that Wadebridge is such a popular all round destination.  Situated at the heart of the Camel Trail, and ideally located to access some of the most dramatic and beautiful coastal scenery, our amazing town appeals to residents and holiday makers alike.  Wadebridge boasts a proper bookshop, 2 butchers, a haberdashery, 3 bakers, a hardware store, a fishmongers, a cookshop, 2 deli’s, 2 florists, a ‘high tech’ old fashioned cinema and an ever expanding choice of different eateries to suit any palate.  If that’s not enough for you, Wadebridge is proud to have in one of its independent coffee shops, a world class barista!
